VT-7
Ideal for tracking, mixing, and mastering, the VT-7 boasts an all Class-A vacuum tube audio path, characteristic of all D.W. Fearn products. The gain reduction elements replicate the sound and characteristics of the finest classic vacuum tube compressors, ensuring a transparent sound even when used aggressively. The VT-7's design diminishes compression artifacts compared to most other compressors, providing a highly versatile and dynamic processing tool.
The VT-7 features two independent channels that can be used separately or linked for stereo operation. The Link switch, in its third position, introduces a high-pass filter (HPF) in the side-chain, reducing gain-reduction sensitivity to low frequencies with a gentle roll-off at 100Hz. This feature is especially useful for maintaining frequency balance in bass-heavy mixes and preventing heavy low-frequency audio from modulating the overall audio level.
Renowned for imparting a magical gloss to rock and pop mixes, the VT-7 remains transparent enough to subtly enhance gain control in jazz and classical tracks without obvious effects, resulting in a significant improvement in overall sound quality. Each channel offers controls for Threshold, Gain, Attack, Release, and Harder/Softer, while common controls include Separate/Link/Link HPF. VU meters can be switched between indicating gain reduction or output level.
